Tapered roller bearing
Tapered roller bearings are special (line contacting) roller bearings where the roller is in the form of a truncated cone. This allows very high loads to be transmitted in radial and axial directions. Tapered roller bearings are usually made completely of steel and are not made self-holding.
This means that outer race and inner section (inner race, rolling element and cage) can usually be mounted separately. Tapered roller bearings are generally installed in pairs arranged mirrored to one another.
Depending on the application, O or X arrangement is preferred. Main areas of application are heavy-duty industrial gears as well as shipbuilding and vehicle construction.
